Re: Oxygen-Acetylene vs. arc weld
David
I would vote for arc . the oxieacetaline heats the metal more and
can cause more distortion. the arc is my personal favorite and I
belive that it may be less expensive? I belive the arc gives a
better weld and finaly there is not the problem of the gas blowing
the puddle of liquid metal aray and so perhapse its easyer to do
a vertical weld though it is best if the trailer is turned so all welds
are horozontal
IMHO
thanks

Dear Group,
I have located a great source for material to build a trailer for
Micro as per the plans posted in a number of Bolger pages (can't
remember which ones right now, but I think Pippo has a link to it).
A trailer built with a frame of 3" C channel and a 10' 3" tongue
should cost no more than $400 to build from scratch, and more
importantly, will fit Micro like a glove. I am going to add a 2.5"
inner tongue that can be extended for shallow ramps to allow the boat
to float on and off the trailer with a minimum of effort. Triad
trailers in Milford, CT does this and it works great!
The question is, " Which is better to weld this stuff, Oxy/Acet.
or an arc welder?" I am obviously brand new to this, but have access
to the equipment. I just have no idea where to start.
