Re: holiday project - 2 day elegant punt
er, well ... they live on the sunny atlantic coast of Florida. We
did it while visiting for break.
By the way, they haven't painted the boat yet, but I hear the plan is
to outfit each kid in a garbage bag, hand them a paint brush and let
them loose. I can hardly wait to see the pictures.
Because of the many possible load distribution possibilities (is it
seven factorial?) We got two sets of oar sockets instead of one (only
one is shown on the plans).
So what do you think: a 2 week Micro? Could it be done?

start building 6 more since those kiddies will soon be too big for
the one boat to handle! :-D

Congratulations -- excellent choice of boat, the kids will have a ball with
it. Two days -- that must be about as instant as they come!

Subject: [bolger] holiday project - 2 day elegant punt
As a christmas present for myself and my nieces and nephews, I
organized a building party for an elegant punt. We had six children,
three teenagers and five adults involved. It was a great project and
we constructed the boat in two days, not counting buying the
materials or painting.
We used exterior A/C plywood with knotholes on the C-side patched
with polyester filler. PL-premium for glue. No epoxy. We mostly
used hand tools, but we had to borrow a tablesaw to rip the pieces
for the gunn'le and chine logs. Latex house paint. Total cost of
materials: less than $100.
The boat is for a my sister's family of seven children. The kids are
all pretty light, so with a smooth water rating of 600lbs, this 8
footer should hold them all!
I think it will last about five years hard use - maybe ten.
This was my second boat. It is true what they say: once you build
one boat, you can bet you will be building more in the future.

> I think it will last about five years hard use - maybe ten.My Elegant Punt has withstood 25 years of total neglect with only
some severe checking of the marine ply. Unless the carpenter ants
have gotten to it without my knowlege. I'll have to pull the ivy off
it and take a look.
