Re: [bolger] Re: Depoe Bay Wooden Boat Show

Jim-

I'm looking forward to seeing you again, and your Pointy Skiff. Jack Brown
probably has more info now, but this is what he sent me a while back:

"John: Recommend one of these: (1) Whale Inn: $45 and up; second night
half price (for exhibitors at boat show only). On Hy 101 (inland side;
south a bit from the 76 gas station). 541-765-2789. (2) Trollers Lodge:
$59 and up; second night half price. On ocean side of Hy 101 just a bit
south of the bridge. 541-765-2287 (Peggy Leoni)."

I'm going to stay at the Trollers Lodge, but they said the boat festival
deal was 10% off, not the second night half price (but Jack may have put
the fear of God into them and straightened out the discrepancy by now).
Beverly Beach state park is very nice, we stayed there last year. You can
reserve a spot through either of the URLs below (the first leads to the
second).

http://www.prd.state.or.us/reservation.html

http://www.reserveamerica.com/usa/or/beve/

If you've got a camper or moho, there's a camp inside Depoe Bay, Jack would
know how to contact them.

Newport and Lincoln City are not far from Depoe Bay and each has a
multitude of motels, including cheap ones.

Jack Brown can tell you more <mjbrown@...>.

Camping available at state park several motels, and maybe RV, Camper
or just plain camping in a lot not far from show.

Tell him I sent you. It'll make his day. (Maybe)

Sorry

Hadn't seen the info on the Depoe Bay Festival,April 28 & 29, and just

reposted the info today. I'm taking a Light Dory, an Elegant

Punt, and a Rapid Robert (McKinzie River Boat) I don't think

that's too snobby.

There should be a one of a kind double-ender Roger Fletcher McKenzie

River drift boat, Lines and plans by Roger Fletcher and built by

Truely a work of art.

Hope lots of folks show up.

Hi All,

Planing to attend this. I checked out the pictures. Looks like fun. I
will be bringing a Pointy Skiff and.....? Not sure, but I may have a
modified Ira Einsteen Double Paddle Dory along for the ride.

Does anyone have info on campgrounds, motels, etc. readily available?

I hope you can make it to the Depoe Bay Festival this year. Even if there
won't be many (or any?) Bolger boats in attendance there will be a bunch of
Bolger boat type people, it's definitely not a snobby event. I think I've
recruited a Gloucester Gull and her owner anyway, and the Depoe Bay rowing
club's dories are very Gull-like.

Exhibitors can get discounted lodging and free whale-watching rides, and
last year they gave us free crab dinners! So if any other Bolger Boat Buffs
are thinking of attending bring your boat.

For more info on the event contact Jack Brown <mjbrown@...>.

Nobody ought to wear a Greek fisherman's hat unless they meet two conditions:
1. He is a Greek
2. He is a Fisherman <Roy Blount Jr.>

Depoe Bay has got to be one of the most amazing little bits of
geography on the entire West coast. The first time I saw it, I nearly
didn't believe my eyes. The rest of the Oregon coast is pretty good
too.

If you're thinking about going, go!

It looks good to me. Depoe Bay is a charming place, with added
interest in the Oregon shore nature interpretive centre (if I recall
correctly).

John, on Portage Inlet's sunny and sailing-perfect shores (after a
day or two of rain, I must admit, and me with only a canoe ready for
the water as yet!)

Hi

I just got a note about the Depoe Bay show on April 28 & 29, and I'm sorely
tempted to make the trip down to Oregon. Are there any other Bolger boaters
thinking about this?

For those who haven't heard of this festival, check out John Kohnen's
pictoral history on his website.
