Re: Date for the Champlain messabout

August 2-5 sounds great.

I have obtained clearance from the calendar chairwoman and have
received permission to bring: 2 children, 1 wife, 1 large black lab,
1 Diablo, 1 pointy skiff; or 1 Micro and 1 pointy skiff.
Sorry, I have to go now. Church, then to sand the spars and
shape a rudder post, place an order for bronze bolts, epoxy, ring
nails. So much to do, so little time. There is no time to waste
here!

btw: the posting a few days ago about someone breaking a rudder post
on their Micro did not do much to allay my fears that this is a weak
point in the design. I am going with heavy duty pintles and gudgeons
rather than the wooden clamp shown on my plans, and am going to epoxy
in a matrix of woven kevlar or carbon fiber to add some much needed
strenght to this member in terms of its resistance to breakage.

To that end,I would like to propose the weekend of August 4 and
>
David and fellow Bolgerites,
I suppose we had better start firming things up with regards to
the LAKE CHAMPLAIN BOLGER MESSABOUT.To date I have only noticed a few
of us expressing interest but this may well change once spring/summer
gets here. The fact that no specific date has been mentioned does not
help our cause.........
To that end,I would like to propose the weekend of August 4 and
5.This does not necessarily mean that it is but a 2 day"event"but
rather this should be the target dates for those who live within
reasonable trailering distance but can only escape for a
long-weekend!For those with more time,ie;on vacation,Thursday,August
2nd may be good for early arrivals! The intention here would be
to"stake-out" a cozy corner before the crush of outside weekend
revelers arrive.
I am not familiar with the area previously proposed by David
Cassidy but after seeing the photo-link he sent yesterday to the
group,I know I will be getting some charts real soon....it looks
gorgeous!!!!!!!!Furthermore,he does appear to have some local
knowledge and may be able to assist in fleshing out the little details
like, highway directions for the trailersailors, specific locations of
services needed by us(food, shelter, fuel etc....) and the best
bug-juice against the local airborne fauna.
Never having attended a messabout and only reading about them in
Messing About In Boats or at Duckworks Magazine I sense these are low
key,laid-back affairs with the main thrust being;HAVING FUN!In the
same spirit,it might be worthwhile opening the event to anyone in the
group, whether they actually have a Bolger boat or not and whether they
show up with a boat or not especially as there are a number of
works-in-progress which may not be completed in time.
Any further details,ideas,recommendations,recipes,comments and
observations are most welcome!!!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, warming up just fine with anticipation,on the frozen
St.Lawrence shores..........

What is the date for the Lake Champlain messabout? I would love it to
be during the first week or two of August. After Black Fly season,
and before snow.
