Re: Thanks to Glen

So far Glen could pass the 10cm test, but then, he still has all
those myriad of details to finish (not to mention discover that he
has to do in the first place. I remember even on my little Cartoppers
that for a good long while the list of things that needed doing,
depsite near daily work, kept getting longer, not shorter!)

But judging by the care and effort he's put in so far, and granted
patience and continued inspiration (and that all important
requirement--an indulgent wife), he's gonna have one beauty of a boat
someday (which will make a perfect match with his three kids. They
were crawling all over the boat while I was there, inside and out, I
got a real kick out of it!).

Regards,

John O'Neill, making no apologies for the fact that he got to go
sailing yesterday, with his own kid, up to Suisun for hot dogs and
ice cream on a truly beautiful day! What a life....

No fear John,it has been lonely up here for these past 8 years and I
sure could use the company!! ;-) If you don't mind passing on my best
wishes to Glen,I'd appreciate it.
By the way,in reference to the post by Vance,I aimed for the sub-
catagory of PCB10cm(less than 4").That is,the distance from which the
designer can
study the boat, maintain a smile, render unreserved approval and leave
the builder feeling mighty proud!HE did,I am!
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, feeling like it was only yesterday,on the shores of the
ever cold St.Lawrence.........

John, it sounds as if Glen is building a 500mm boat. Way back in
message 27 Foster Price posted the three levels of quality
homebuilt boats tend to. I will repeat it here for those who don't
like going to the website.

Vance

Three levels of quality:
John Welsford, a New Zealand designer of small boats
(including a modified Glouschester Gull that I ((Foster)) built)
who says he has been inspired by PCB proposed the following
system:

500mm (2' ) boats: Boats built to this standard are perfect in
every detail when veiwed from a distance of 2' i.e. in close
examination one can't see any flaws.

5.0m (15' ) boats: These boats look good if you stand back a
little. the sheer is right, detailing correct and they will please
the designer and anyone who uses them. The builder may feel
that he/she could have done better but there's always next time.
My boats fall into this category and I fear I will never be able to
produce a 500mm boat!!

50.0m (150' ) boats: These arn't improved by distance, the
designer will disown the builder, and no-one will want to use the
boat. I have to admit I have built a boat to this standard ( once, a
long time ago, luckily a lady wanted a garden planter and I was
able to quit it ).

Regards - Foster Price
A big, big thanks to Glen Gibson for graciously inviting Bink and me
over to inspect his Micro, still under construction, Glen estimates
about 70% there.

It's an absolutely beautiful, sturdy craft, Gaboon ply throughout,
1st rate construction details. Glen, your boat caught my eye and
wouldn't let go! Peter L., watch your tail, you may soon have
competition in the yachtiest Micro on the board catagory. Truly a
pleasure Glen, thank you again.

Bolger rules (some truly nice folk)....
