a FG mast? It seems to me that the taper would allow for easier removal of
the pipe. I like your idea of cutting the FG tube to taper it, Paul. Any
wooden backups or stiffeners could be added at that time. I assume that one
would split it when there are minimal layers, then add more layers after the
tapering and plugging has taken place.

In answer to the question of what weight tape i use. No idea. Ithink
it would be 4-6 oz. I like the idea for stretching pvc. What I do is
make a staight mast then cut long narrow 'v's with a 4" grinder with
a masonry cutting disc. Pull in and hold with rubber bands, then
wrap with tape and resin. If I was building a 23' mast would be
considering stays or beefing with heavier tape or add a layer of
kevlar tape . Vacuum bagging would also help to gie a stronger end
