Getting Started - Intro

Introduction

March 12

Very excited about my Piccup build. Took me many years to begin this dream of building my own fishing boat. Over the years the dream went away, married and then kids and time just goes. Then i stumbled across random sailing videos and I began my journey of sailing. I went full on Youtube blitz and watched so many build videos and then began to watch how to sail videos and began getting the concept together.

My lovely wife recognized this new passion and bought me my first sailing lessons at our local sailing yatch club in town. I was over the moon. I did my lessons summer of 2025 and was hooked. I enjoyed sailing even in the little habour bay. I saw the potential and joining my fellow local dinghy cruisers!

that was it i looked online and read a lot on designs and best first builds. Sure many have attempted bigger boats but that is not me. I enjoy small boats and why not start with a boat i can throw in the back of my pickup truck! After finding so many videos online and build videos i was sold. I bought the plans and begin November 2024.

Very exciting to begin the process and learn. Bought some books and went off to get some plywood!

1 year into the build and I'm starting to feel like progress. The hull is tacked together, needs wales, fiberglass the seams, but I have all the spars done, rudder and leeboard completed.

Now that the cold Canadian winter is done (hope so, its still March) i can start fiber glassing now. In the meantime I'm getting ahead of myself and begin building a galley box for my overnight adventures.
